FAMILY TREES

When some of the trees on our family farm had to come down this winter, my brother and his wife came up with a great idea!  They asked John if he would be interested in turning some bowls from these trees, so that our family members could have a piece of our past to save and keep in our homes.  The pictures that follow show a little "history" of the front yard that held these trees and the stages from tree to bowl.

The bowls have been rough turned from the wet logs.  The next step is getting them dry.  John has placed the bowls in paper bags and is letting them air dry.   It is possible to use the microwave to dry the bowls, but John has learned that he prefers to let them air dry.  Once they are dry, John will complete turning to desired shape and then will sand and finish.   Below are the finished bowls of boxelder and silver maple.
If you would like some items turned from your family's trees, contact us--we would like to profile your family as we did with ours!
